The authorities of the Campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), in San Francisco de Macorís, confirmed the celebration of the eighth version of the International Cultural Festival “Maestra Ana Luisa Arias”, to be held from Monday 21 to Saturday 26 February, in person and in various parts of the city of Jaya, having as its main axis the University Campus.
This festival is considered one of the most important cultural activities of the northeast of the Dominican Republic, which attracts the participation of collaborators, followers and workers of the arts from different parts of the world.
The general director of the academic campus, Miguel Medina Liriano, said that, in its eighth version, the opening ceremony will be held on the esplanade of the UASD San Francisco Campus, with the presentation of the Typical and Folkloric groups of the Ministry of Tourism, on Monday 21 at 5:00 in the afternoon.
Referring to the teacher Ana Luisa Arias, former director of CURNE-UASD, he said that she was a promoter of the cultural groups of the Campus, “An enthusiastic pioneer in the artistic formation in the university classrooms and left deep traces in a legion of artists in different expressions”.
Medina Liriano emphasized that for the administration headed by the current authorities, it is very significant to resume the path traced by Arias, who made great contributions to the arts and culture.
As in previous years, the festival is coordinated by the poet and arts worker Noé Zayas, under the guidelines of Maestro Miguel Medina Liriano, director of the UASD San Francisco de Macorís Campus, with the support and sponsorship of the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Education, the Federation of Artisans, Dominicana Lee, the Dominican College of Journalists, Teleoperadora del Nordeste TELENORD, among other institutions.
About Ana Luisa Arias
They emphasized that the distinguished teacher Ana Luisa Arias, was a forger and promoter of culture in the region and the country. They also emphasized that Arias was the director of the Curne from 1989-1996, currently the San Francisco Campus of the Universidad Primada de América.
The Festival Mtra. Ana Luisa Arias, began to be held in 2014, as a way to keep alive the great contributions she made in the region, internationalizing in the present management, which has given value to culture and the arts, as a way to give fulfillment to the extension work of the academy.

For this 8th version a wide program of activities is contemplated among them the Craft Fair, in addition the presentations of the artistic of Ximena Y Juan Carlos de AZA, for Monday 21, while on Tuesday: 22 the Craft Show, with the Day of the clay crafts: Micro workshop of clay crafts, as well as the daily presentation for a week of the television program WHAT ART IS FOR, which in its first installment will have the Dialogue of academics: A look at art from the academy, with the participation of Father Isaac García and Miguel Medina, rectors of the Universidad Católica Nordestana and UASD San Francisco respectively and conducted by; Raquel Ortega and José Amado Rosa.
For Wednesday 23rd, is scheduled the Craft Show, day of the Jícara de coco handicraft: with Micro handicraft workshop in Jícara de coco from 9:00 am to 3 pm. In addition to artistic presentations in the Lobby of buildings A and B of the UASD S.F.M. Campus. Also scheduled is the discussion Hirma Contreras analysis of his storyteller, with José Enrique García / presented by José Martin Paulino, in the Hall of Act Ana Luisa Arias at five in the afternoon.
On Thursday 24, the Craft Show, Wood Craft Day: Micro wood craft workshop from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. followed by the Festival of Narrative, dedicated to Emilia Pereyra. It was also announced that there will be meetings of readings in schools, with the intervention of guest writers in 20 schools with narrative workshops, readings, dialogues, among others.
On the 24th, the Narrated Reality: Readings with the writers will be held at 10:00 AM at the Ana Luisas Arias Assembly Hall. Also at 10:00 AM, the Conversation: New Reading Plan: by José Manuel Acosta and Valentín Amaro at the Hilma Contreras Municipal Library, with the collaboration of ECREFOBI, Team for the Creation and Strengthening of Libraries.
Meanwhile, theatrical activities will be presented in the LOBBY of BUILDING B of the Academic Campus on Thursday 24 at 11:00 am. A.M. Unipersonal “El hermano especial”, Dramaturgy and interpretation, Bryan De Elena, 11. 30. A.M., Unipersonal “El ladrón del fuego” on a text by Calil Gibrhan. Dramaturgy and interpretation by Anthony Casado, “El loco de la vía” by Rafael Amor Interpreter, Radhames Polanco. On the same day at 5:00 p.m., the central event of the storytellers’ festival, with Narrative and Memory: master lecture by Emilia Pereyra and presentation of awards, in the auditorium Maestra Ana Luisa Arias.
A series of popular concerts will be offered, one of them will take place on Thursday 24 at 6:00 PM at the Juan Bosch Park Esplanade, with the presentation of José Dulú and Los guerreros del fuego, Jabid & Ararey.
On Friday: 25 at 10 AM there will be a SYMPOSIUM ON COMMUNICATION AND LITERATURE: dictated by Gustavo Olivo Peña, Emilia Pereyra, Bianco Martinez and Eloy Tejeda, in the Auditorium Ana Luisas Arias. Afterwards, the theatrical presentations will take place at the Juan Pablo Duarte Park.
That same day at 10. 00. A. M. Presentation of the one-man show “El hermano especial” dramaturgy and interpretation, Bryan De Elena. At 10. 30. A.M. Presentation of the one-man show “El ladrón del fuego” about texts. At 10: 00. A.M. One-man show “The special brother” Dramaturgy and interpretation, Bryan De Elena 10: 30. A.M. One-man show “The Fire Thief” on a text by Calil Gibrhan. Dramaturgy and interpretation by Anthony Casado. There will also be a Craft Show, Craft Day in Fibers and Seeds: Micro workshop of crafts in Fibers and Seeds from 9 to 12 a.m. and from 2 to 5 p.m.
Also to encourage reading, a Reading Point will be set up for book exchange and poetry recital, from 10 am to 5 pm in Duarte Park.
For the closing of the Ana Luisa Arias Cultural Festival, on Saturday 26, will be held the SANCTUARY; A call for the protection of the solenodonte, the poetic Aquelarre, coordinated by Luis Carvajal with the INTERNATIONAL RECITAL XII FESTIVAL OF NARRATORS from 10 am in the bracitos Falda de la Loma Quita Espuela, in RANCHO DON LULÚ, with OPEN READINGS: Poetic Download and CONCERT by Lulu y los Guerreros del Fuego, Jabid & Ararey and Concón Quemao.
