The Association of Art Critics (ACROARTE) will begin work in the coming days on the 37th edition of the Soberano Awards, the most important artistic awards in the Dominican Republic, with the first evaluation meetings to be held on Friday, December 3 and Saturday, December 4.
The juries of the cinema and classic film categories will meet on Friday the third of next month to evaluate Dominican productions of the seventh art -undoubtedly one of the most active sectors after the reopening of theaters- and the premieres of plays, another sector that was reactivated in the second half of the year.
The evaluation days will continue the following Saturday, when those in charge of nominating the best of art and show business will meet again in person, to debate and contrast the most outstanding of 2021 in the Communication and Popular categories, namely the work of the artistic class of television, music and radio.
Emelyn Baldera, president of Acroarte, understands that the different juries of the awards will have a lot of work ahead of them, due to the fact that almost all the sectors of art and show business resumed their work as the health authorities have been controlling the terrible situation caused by Covid-19.
“Since a few months ago, the Dominican Republic has seen the reactivation of activities in almost all entertainment sectors,” commented Baldera. “Especially in the last semester of the year, cinema, theater, music and television are operating practically normally and this has allowed the realization of activities that will be evaluated as part of the work of our prestigious awards.”
In this way, Acroarte, which presents the awards together with CervecerÃa Nacional Dominicana (CND), is preparing to give a boost to the entertainment industry, which this year was reactivated precisely with the 36th edition of this ceremony, which since 1985 has been a tradition and an artistic celebration that unites Dominicans inside and outside the country.
Premios Soberano is the main artistic award of the Dominican Republic and therefore has awakened in the population a feeling of ownership that both ACROARTE and CND have taken into account to find the formula to offer the people an unforgettable night every year.
