The film will be produced by Kelvin Liria and Jessica Hasbún, directed by Tito Rodríguez and scripted by Junior Rosario.
“I met Marileidy in 2021, when she was still a relatively unknown athlete. She already had exceptional marks, and her story touched me deeply. I am certain that Marileidy embodies resilience and determination. Kelvin, my husband, christened her ‘Wonder Woman,'” Hasbún said.
She added, “Over the past three years, we have developed a beautiful friendship. Together, we knew the next step was to tell her story on the big screen. I’m proud that this is my first feature film, and that it’s about someone I admire. Our goal is to connect with the audience and make them feel the same pride we feel for her.”
Marileidy Paulino, a sprinter who has captivated the entire nation, is our best hope for Olympic glory in Paris.
Despite getting a late start in athletics, her power and agility have quickly made her stand out.
“With the tenacity and strength that characterizes her, Marileidy has established herself as the most decorated Dominican female athlete. She is the current world champion in her specialty and continues to train with her sights set on Paris,” added Hasbún.
Kelvin Liria, general producer of the feature film “Marileidy”, considered this project a dream come true. “Marileidy Paulino’s story has immense value for Dominican youth and athletes. Her life and trajectory deserve to be told. We are committed to bringing a high quality production to the big screen, facing numerous challenges with great enthusiasm.”
Director Tito Rodriguez expressed, “Making this film about Marileidy is much more than telling a sports story. It is a tribute to the strength and determination of Dominican women. Marileidy Paulino not only represents the pride of her country in athletics, but she embodies the fighting spirit and passion that characterizes Dominican women. Her story deserves to be celebrated on the big screen.”
Junior Rosario, the film’s screenwriter, noted, “The film project on the life of Marileidy Paulino is special because it documents the life of an exceptional person. It shows the rise of a generational talent and how, sometimes, these talents are found in the most unexpected places, but always in the most deserving people.”
Oliver Mota, director of photography, stressed that the film will be a tribute to the strength and determination of Dominican women. “Marileidy Paulino represents the talent and dedication that can open doors and break barriers. Her story deserves to be told and celebrated.”
