On Sunday, Andreina Martinez was declared the country’s representative for the Miss Universe 2021 beauty pageant, which will be held in the Israeli city of Eilat.
Andreína, 24, participated on behalf of the Dominican community in the United States, and won the crown by beating her colleagues from Azua, La Vega, Samaná and La Romana.
For this beauty, winning the contest is a dream come true, since she dreamed of being Miss Dominican Republic Universe since she was a child.
She had previously expressed that if she wins the pageant she intends to motivate girls and women, showing them that with hard work they can achieve any goal they set for themselves.
Who is she?
She lives in New York, United States, where she is part of the Women’s Equality Center Foundation as operations coordinator, responsible for administrative and organizational support.
Prior to working with the Women’s Equality Center, Andreina interned with multiple U.S. government agencies that work on behalf of various social causes, such as immigrant rights.
Martinez holds a B.A. in Psychology with a concentration in Latin American Studies from the City College of New York. She was a recipient of the Federal Pell Grant, which enabled her to pay for her studies.
She was also part of her alma mater’s SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge) program, which seeks to help low-income students, where she also worked after graduation.
According to the Miss Dominican Republic Universe website, Andreina enjoys playing volleyball and softball in her free time.
Her favorite singer is Juan Luis Guerra, while her favorite writer is the Colombian Gabriel García Márquez, being the essay her favorite genre.
In addition, maintaining her interest in social struggles, she said she identifies with Dolores Huerta, one of the most influential labor rights activists of the 20th century, according to the National Museum of Women in the United States.
