The president of the European Union defined the Dominican Republic as the main trading partner of this community.
The high-ranking EU official made her pronouncement in those terms through a tweet and after meeting with President Abinader.
“Dominican Republic is the EU’s largest trading partner in the Caribbean. I assured Luis Abinader of our support for a green transition that benefits all. #GlobalGateway is ready to deliver investments for vital infrastructure,” Ms. Ursula von der Leyen tweeted.
The president of the European Commission prior to her tweet had had a bilateral meeting with President Abinader for about half an hour.
At the meeting, the Dominican president was accompanied by Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, Deputy Foreign Minister Rubén Silié and the Dominican ambassador to Belgium, Iván Ogando.
