Ambassador of the DR highlights strength and mestizaje of Caribbean music

The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, accompanied by the Councillor for Culture, David Martinez, received today Friday, July 15, the ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Spain, Juan Bolivar Diaz Santana, in the Palacio Consistorial.

The ambassador visited Cartagena on the occasion of the opening of the Festival La Mar de Músicas, which dedicates this year’s edition to that country. “For me it is a great satisfaction as ambassador of the Dominican Republic to be in this city with so much history,” he said. In addition, he highlighted the high potential of his country as an exporter of great professional athletes, as well as renowned musicians such as Johnny Ventura and Victor Victor.

The Dominican Republic was going to be the guest country of the Cartagena festival in 2020, but the edition was truncated due to the pandemic. Two years later this opportunity has been rescued “recovering the essence of the festival, which is undoubtedly the cultural jewel of Cartagena,” as Arroyo has stated.
