Guarded by the Cordillera Central and the Sierra de Martin Garcia, which are home to the peaks, Mount Tina and Mount Bué, among others, Azua de Compostela stands as the heroic city of good people who do not give up to achieve its development.
When we talk about the southern region, we must emphasize that it has several heritage monuments that are used as a reference and representation of the cities where they were built.
One of them is the 19 de Marzo Park; inside you can see the Monument to the Heroes of the historic battle, designed by the Spanish artist Antonio Prats Ventós, who became a Dominican citizen. Also located in the municipality of Azua is the Plaza Juan Pablo Duarte, located in the central park.
Azua is one of the main cities of the South. It had its first settlements in what is now known as Pueblo Viejo, where you can still see the ruins of what was once the church of Las Mercedes, one of the most important heritage sites.

A very important aspect for which tourists come to the province is the variety of its gastronomy. Some of its most emblematic dishes are the following: stewed goat, pigeon peas cahmbre, cirop prepared in different ways, with macha food, chicken, pork or beef, fish, seafood and we must also add the bobote made from cassava flour.
