The Dominican National Folkloric Ballet (BFND) of the General Directorate of Fine Arts was invited to participate in the “Dances and Music of the World” Festival, to be held in France from August 8 to 12 this year.
The BFND, directed by maestro Maritza Reyes, has the support of the Directorate General of Fine Arts, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism, to participate in this event that will bring together cultural expressions from all over the world.
The artistic group will perform in several cities, including Sainte-Fortunade, Terres de Haute Charente and Confolens.
This invitation from the organizers of the festival is an international recognition of the work of the Dominican National Folkloric Ballet, which has been a cultural ambassador of the country on numerous stages around the world.

With its participation in this event, the ballet not only seeks to showcase the richness of Dominican folklore, but also to strengthen the cultural ties between the Dominican Republic and France, and to proudly represent the national identity in one of the most important music and dance festivals in the world.
Historical data
The Ballet Folklórico Nacional Dominicano was created in 198l, with the mission of projecting the national art and culture through native dances.
It is a group destined to preserve, transmit and promote the artistic and cultural samples of the different communities of the country. Among its responsibilities are to develop a repertoire made up of choreographies based on Dominican myths, customs, stories, legends and landscapes, and to provide spaces for their dissemination.
Also, to investigate dance traditions throughout the national territory for the registration and conservation of music, songs, dances and children’s games.
The Ballet Folklórico Nacional Dominicano was formed with most of the dancers of the former Ballet Folklórico Dominicano, created by Fradique Lizardo in 1975, and with members of the folkloric groups directed by Nereida Rodríguez, Altagracia Peña and Moisés Vargas. Its current director is Professor Maritza Reyes.
This company stages a gala show every year, and performs in official events, neighborhoods, clubs and towns throughout the country. It has participated in international folkloric festivals and has toured the United States, Latin America and Europe. Since 1994, it has developed a folkloric didactic program for schools, where it teaches, through dance, music and song, the evolution and traditions of Dominican society.
