The festivity took place under heavy rains on Santo Domingo’s Malecon.
The Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic celebrated this Monday the National Carnival Parade 2022 in the Caribbean nation, the event counted with massive participation of citizens despite heavy rains.
The most popular festival in the country, after being suspended for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, welcomed this day 200 troupes and more than 10,000 carnival goers in the Malecon of Santo Domingo (capital), in tribute to the municipality of Cotuí.
Thus, the head of the Dominican Ministry of Culture, Milagros Germán, led the festivity which reaffirmed the most representative traditions of the nation, named this year as “a people in carnival”.
On the other hand, the inauguration was led by the music band of the National Army, who were seconded by the musical performers of the Air Force.
Among the carnival groups that participated in the National Parade were the Lechones de Santiago, La Vega Carnaval, Élites, Carnaval Vega, Los Ojos de la Vega, Unión Carnavelesca Mocana, Batey Maguana, Nuestra Caña de Azúcar and Los Muertos Vivientes.
It is worth noting that despite the weather conditions, the troupes paraded along George Washington Avenue as a symbol of the national geography, with costumes of all types of clothing and styles, some made of recycled materials, and others of coconut stalks.
