Tobacco and rum exhibited as DR cultural assets

The Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana) shared in a pleasant atmosphere the contributions of tobacco and rum to the country’s export sector, in an exhibition of products of the exportable supply of these items throughout the month of June. As part of the exhibition, tastings were held in a closing activity in which we celebrated the achievements and tradition of these sectors.

“It is undeniable that these products are part of the intangible attributes that define us as Dominicans. And outside the country they are letters of introduction that speak of joy, tradition and commitment to quality,” said Biviana Riveiro, executive director of ProDominicana.

Riveiro also highlighted that “In recent years, both tobacco and rum have become key items for Dominican exports. Given their capacity to generate employment, the leading positions they occupy in various markets and their contribution to the country’s international image, the opportunities for investment in their products are extremely high”.

It is worth noting that tobacco and rum had an export performance that amounted to US$1,236.14 million and US$111.9 million, respectively, in 2021. These figures mark a clear recovery of both items after the pandemic.

The event had the collaboration of La Aurora, where attendees enjoyed their cigars and rum, while coming into contact with a sensory experience based on the appreciation of an artisan cigar maker. We also received support from INICIA and Banco Lafise.

The exhibition counted with the participation of different Tobacco and Rum companies such as: Abeja Cigars, Azua Cigars, Blackthorn Investments, Brugal & Co, Cannan Cigars, Cigarros La Galera, DBL Dominican Cigars, Dos Jotas, Empresa de Cigarros, Koi Dominicana, La Aurora, Linga Cigars, Octavius, Cigars, Oliver & Oliver, Procesadora de tabaco San Victor, ProCigars, R&F Continental Cigars, Ron Barceló, Ron Bermúdez, Ron Tutumpote Ron Veleiro Sante Cigars, Tabacalera Antonio Manuel Céspedes, Tabacalera Don Aníbal Trujillo, Tabacalera El Hoyito, Tabacalera Fuente & Co. , Tabacalera GTO Cigar, Tabacalera La Rábida, Tabacalera Noris, Tabacalera Torres García, United Brands, Isidro Bordas, JJ Spirits, among others.
