President Luis Abinader held a meeting with his counterpart of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, at the Quirinal Palace, where they discussed different issues of interest to both nations.
At the meeting, President Abinader asked his counterpart Mattarella to work on increasing direct flights from different parts of Italy, in order to further strengthen tourism and commercial exchange.
He also asked for Italy’s support and favorable voice for the multinational force to be deployed in Haiti.
The President also spoke with the Italian President about the possibility of signing a professional mobility agreement to take Dominicans to Italy to work in strategic sectors where this European nation has needs.
In the meeting, which was also attended by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Julio Gómez, and the Dominican ambassador to Italy, Tony Raful, President Abinader asked Mattarella to advance in the agreement for the homologation of the driver’s license for Dominicans.
In addition, the president asked him to open a channel of cooperation to acquire Italian military equipment to further strengthen the Dominican Armed Forces.
The said meeting took place within the framework of the visit made by the Dominican head of state to participate in a private audience with His Holiness, Pope Francis.
