Hidalgo is working from Punta Cana to get support from Brazil for the creation of another airline

Juan José Hidalgo, president of Globalia and owner of Air Europa, asked the Brazilian government for support to launch an airline, as he considers that there is no other country in Latin America that can attract more foreign tourists.

During the World Tourism Organization (WTO) meeting in Punta Cana, a meeting was held between the Brazilian Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado Neto and Juan José “Pepe” Hidalgo, who stated that Brazil has great potential to bring international tourists not only from Spain, but from all over Europe.

“If they manage to have a low-cost company, Brazil would have a new strong airline”, he said, as the group would work on an airline that flies in the country, as reported by Mercadoeeventos.

Gilson commented that, “a month ago, Brazil privatized 22 airports with a surcharge of 18 times the amount requested at the beginning. We have a very large capacity and we will have a very strong recovery in tourism”.

It is recalled that Iberia stated that it does not know the date by which it plans to close the purchase of Air Europa, when initially it would be for the second half of 2020.

Iberia’s executive president, Javier Sánchez-Prieto, stated that they expect to know something before the end of 2021.

“We should know something before the end of the year,” Sanchez-Prieto said.
