The Kimpton brand, one of the IHG Group’s brands, will be the operator of the Iberostar that is being built in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone, as this digital arecoa.com has learned from sources close to several of the establishment’s partners. This change comes as a result of the agreement signed by the Spanish chain with the North American hotel giant, which contemplates the use of the different IHG signatures depending on the locations and categories of the hotels of the Majorcan company.
Thus, the original Iberostar Las Mercedes will be known as the Kimpton Las Mercedes. Partners in this hotel include Iberostar, its former vice-president José Antonio González, Hispanic Dominican investor José Ramón Gomis, and one of the most important business families in the Dominican Republic, the Vicinis. The soul of this project is José Antonio González and the decoration is the responsibility of the renowned expert José Deudero, an artist always linked to Iberostar and a Dominican by adoption.
The Kimpton Las Mercedes was scheduled to open in December, but in the end the opening will take place before Easter and will further boost tourism in the capital. This is the first Kimpton to open in the Dominican Republic.
