The best tour in Punta Cana: Saona Island

A priori everyone answers yes, but it is only because they do not know the options available, and it is easy to regret not having taken advantage of this great opportunity to see more in depth this paradisiacal destination.

I will tell you that the best tour you can find in Punta Cana (or at least, from my point of view) is the Saona Island tour.

Let me put you in the picture. You are in an all-inclusive resort and the first day you just want to eat, drink, and soak in the pools… Well, maybe the first two days!

But when you find out that for a little less than 60 € you can hire a tour with one of the local agencies, they pick you up at the hotel and take you to the port, and once there, embark on a speedboat with other travelers to live unique experiences … that’s already another level.

When is the right time to travel to the Caribbean?
We know money is important, so let’s cut to the chase.

Here’s the usual: between December and April there are no hurricanes to worry about or constant rains, but it is high season and everything is more expensive. For example, a direct flight from Madrid to Havana costs 900 euros in January, but in July the price drops by 20-30%. In general, it is advisable to book between 4 and 6 months in advance. However, if you want to travel in summer (as there are no other options), everything is cheaper from June to November, as it is hurricane season. We recommend you to book between November and January.

Which destinations do you recommend and why?
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Punta Cana, along with Cancun, is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations, with more than 30 kilometers of seemingly endless beaches and plenty of seaside accommodations. Some of the most famous are Playa Bavaro and Arena Gorda.

But beyond the tourist areas, you can also visit Los Haitises National Park, with its impressive karst formations, the fishing village of Saona Island, with mangroves and beautiful beaches, the capital, Santo Domingo, and the rainforest of the Ojos Indígenas Ecological Reserve, with its freshwater lagoons.

What do I need for an excursion in Punta Cana?
Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, is a beach destination, but there are all kinds of excursions that can be alternated with the hotel beach.

There are half day and full day excursions.

Saona Island, the best excursion in Punta Cana!
When you are in the office, you may picture a Caribbean beach with white sand, turquoise blue sea and coconut trees. Let me tell you, this is Saona Island, a paradise.

On the excursion to Saona Island from Punta Cana you will be transferred to the island by catamaran or speedboat. Drinks are included. Before arriving, we will be forced to walk to a sandbank in the middle of the ocean. Here you can see starfish, but you are not allowed to touch them or take them out of the water. (No, not even for 5 seconds). Afterwards, you can enjoy your time on the island until lunch time, which is buffet style and very tasty.

The price of this excursion is about 60 euros. If you can swim, snorkeling is included in the price.

As we sail by speedboat, we do not recommend this excursion for pregnant women, but it is explained in detail on the website before booking.

If you are also staying in Bayahibe, we recommend that you book an excursion from this point, which is closer than Punta Cana, as it is cheaper. Here is a list of recommended excursions from Bayahibe.

After all, you are picked up at your hotel, drinks and lunch are included, and the location is great, so there is no excuse not to enjoy this experience.
