Abinader reaffirms his commitment to the development of Santiago and the Cibao

The president said that the next four years will be marked by important institutional, fiscal, labor and social security reforms, which will lay the foundations for sustainable development in the Dominican Republic, with a special focus on the Cibao region.

“Imagine that when we finish the works of Santiago’s integrated transportation system, it will be one of the best connected cities, not only in the Dominican Republic, but in all of the Americas,” assured President Abinader, who also mentioned the possibility of the country becoming a semiconductor assembly center, with the collaboration between the government and the private sector.

The president explained that the vision of economic development includes the creation of a large metropolitan area that will encompass Santiago, Puerto Plata, Moca and La Vega, competing in economic and population terms with the capital region. He also mentioned that public-private alliances are being promoted in areas such as Samaná and Arroyo Barril, as well as in the export of products from the Manzanillo dock.

Juan Mera, president of the Association for Development, on behalf of the associations that make up Compromiso Santiago, expressed his wishes for the new administration of President Abinader to continue to be beneficial for the Dominican population.

Mera highlighted President Abinader’s commitment to the development of the country, highlighting the government’s prioritization of investment and support for the productive sectors. “Specifically in Santiago and the Northern region, this exercise of rapprochement and collaboration has remained vibrant and has facilitated interventions, driven by the Presidency, such as urban mobility systems and roads, infrastructure, environmental solutions, drinking water and sanitation, among others.”

In addition, Mera thanked President Abinader for his focus on decentralization of infrastructure and development works, a policy that has allowed significant progress in the provinces, particularly in the Northern region of the country. “This commitment to regional development is a clear demonstration of the vision of a government that works for all Dominicans, regardless of their geographic location,” he said.

“With these initiatives, President Abinader and his government have done justice to a hard-working territory, which for decades was demanding equitable treatment in the distribution of public investment,” concluded Juan Mera.

The reception served to strengthen the collaboration between the business sector of Santiago and the region with the central government, highlighting the importance of working on projects that promote the economic progress of the nation.

Compromiso Santiago is made up of the Santiago Free Zone Corporation, the Association of Industrialists of the Northern Region (Airen), the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santiago, the Association for Incorporated Development (Apedi), the Council for Strategic Development of Santiago, the Association of Merchants and Industrialists of Santiago (ACIS) and the Association of Free Zones of Cibao.

Accompanying President Luis Abinader were Vice President Raquel Peña; Provincial Governor Rosa Santos; Senator Dr. Daniel Rivera; Municipal Mayor Ulises Rodríguez; CORAASAN Director Andrés Burgos and Edenorte Manager Andrés Cueto, as well as deputies and congressmen of the province, among other authorities.
