10 million annual visitors by 2023

MAY 2013

Dominican Republic is hoping for a drastic jump

Tourism authorities are hoping to attract 10 million annual visitors by 2023, which would represent a drastic jump from the country’s current totals of almost 4.6 million.

What we need is to reach an agreement to understand that all of us in the tourism sector are part of one system, Radhames Martinez Aponte, technical vice minister at the Tourism Ministry, said during his speech at the 14th Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE), held in Bavaro this week.

According to Martinez, to reach the 10 million figure, we need to carry out many efforts in so many markets, such as China, a country with which we are currently starting to make arrangements to have the Dominican Republic chosen as an approved destination.

Since reaching 10 million will also require more funding, the Ministry has been allocated US$13.3 million for 2013, the largest budget in the history of the MITUR.
