Abinader announces construction of two hotels in Pedernales

President Luis Abinader announced this Thursday that construction will begin in February on two hotels in Pedernales, the first to be built in the area as part of the tourism development project in that province.

The act is scheduled for February 4, said Abinader while speaking at a meeting of the Ministry of Tourism to report on the data of the sector last year in the Dominican Republic.

The governor did not give further details about the hotels, nor the investment behind them.

In June 2021, the governor reported that companies interested in developing projects in Pedernales included AM Resorts, Hilton, Hilton, Hyatt, Iberostar, Karisma with Margaritaville, Playa, Marriott, Radisson, CHC Coral, Sunwing and Viva Wyndham.

The Dominican Republic received 7.1 million tourists via area during 2022 compared to 4.9 the previous year, a record figure for the Caribbean country, the Ministry of Tourism reported Thursday.

To these are added 1.3 million people who arrived in the country on cruise ships, according to data offered by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, at an event held in Santo Domingo.
