Néstor Julio Matos Ureña served for years as a member of the Technical Commission of Experts of the Dominican Council for Quality (Codoca), according to the Presidency.
Through decree 404-24, President Luis Abinader appointed Néstor Julio Matos Ureña as the new director of the Dominican Institute for Quality (Indocal).
The appointment of the official was announced Tuesday afternoon by the Presidency of the Republic.
Matos Ureña was chosen from a slate of three candidates proposed by members of the Board of Directors of the Dominican Council for Quality (Codoca) and the government sector, in a meeting held on June 12, 2024, according to one of the recitals of the presidential document.
The new official replaces Lorenzo Ramirez, who on July 9 was appointed by Abinader to the Passport Directorate.
The decree with the new appointment in the Indocal was released this Tuesday, but signed by the president on July 26 and repeals in its Article 2 Article 1 of Decree 500-20, which designated Lorenzo Ramirez as director of the Indocal.
Matos Ureña’s experience
The note from the Presidency refers that Matos Ureña served during the last four years as Member of the Technical Commission of Experts of the Dominican Council for Quality (Codoca).
In addition, as a member of the Seismic Bureau, National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) and general director of Regulations and Systems of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications.
He is a civil engineer, graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), where he also holds a master’s degree in Physics. Internationally, he holds a master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering and a diploma in National Development and Economics from Taiwan.
Functions of Indocal
As a standards body, Indocal’s functions are to organize the activities of elaboration, adoption, harmonization, approval, officialization, publication and dissemination of technical standards, with a view to facilitating trade and industrial development and serving as a basis for technical regulations.
