The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader will present at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur 2022), the official master plan of the Pedernales Tourism Development Project, which details the financial model and the hotels to be built in the different phases of the project.
The information was offered by the executive director of the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP), Sigmund Freund, who explained that although details of the project have been offered, this is the first time that the official model to be implemented in this new tourist destination in the Dominican Republic, which promises to become a unique and luxury destination in the Caribbean region, will be presented.
“We have been working for almost a year on the master plan, already approved by the president, and on Friday, January 21 at 11:00 a.m., we will be officially unveiling it at an event we will be holding at the Villamagna hotel in Madrid,” said Freund.
Fitur 2022 is the second most important trade fair in the world and will take place from January 19 to 23 at the IFEMA fairgrounds in Madrid, Spain. This expo brings together more than 11,000 companies from 165 countries and is attended by more than 250,000 people.
In this edition of Fitur, the Dominican Republic will participate as a partner country, which will allow the country to play a leading role in the fair.
Sigmund Freund assured that with the presentation of the master plan in Madrid, the implementation of the project will be officially initiated “with its road map and everything that an execution model that seeks an optimal development must have, this includes all that is the planning of housing densities, service infrastructure, commercial areas, marina, airport, it is a master plan that covers all the development of the province”.
Freund said that with the recent approval in the National Congress of the Pro-Pedernales trust contract and the official presentation of the master plan, there will be a greater dynamism in the execution of the project in Cabo Rojo.
The executive director of the DGAPP said that during the presentation, the 8 hotel chains with agreements signed with the Government to set up in Cabo Rojo will be announced and that they are working hard so that, by mid-year, work will begin to establish the first hotel in Pedernales.
Agenda at Fitur
Referring to the agenda to be developed by the DGAPP at Fitur, Sigmund Freund said that, as part of the official government delegation, they will support all the activities that the Ministry of Tourism is organizing and will hold private meetings with investors interested in the portfolio of tourism projects to be developed in the country under the public-private partnership model.
Likewise, he reiterated that on Friday, January 21, at 11:00 a.m., the Cabo Rojo-Pedernales master plan will be formally presented for the first time, in the presence of the President of the Republic, “everything related to the hotel project that will be developed”.
Freund added that, within the framework of Fitur, he will hold a meeting with the president of the Spain-Dominican Republic Investment Forum and will participate in the Tourism Investment Awards organized by the Forum.
The official said that this participation in Fitur 2022 is a great opportunity to continue promoting the country as the best tourist destination in the Caribbean and to position Pedernales as the new bet of Dominican tourism.
