Current President Luis Abinader will remain in power

President Luis Abinader will remain in power. Without major complications, the president has achieved his reelection in the first round, being congratulated by his two main rivals, Abel Martinez, of the Dominican Liberation Party, and Leonel Fernandez, of the People’s Force, just a few hours after the polling stations closed.

With his overwhelming victory (58.39%, with a total of 64.16% of the polling stations counted), Abinader will repeat as head of the Dominican State for the next four years. His victory will allow him to realize, at least in its first phases, the tourism projects of Pedernales-Cabo Rojo and Punta Bergantín in Puerto Plata.

Abinader Se Queda En El PoderAs for the ambitious tourism development project in Cabo Rojo, it represents, as the president himself has said at the time, his “greatest legacy in the tourism sector”.

The first hotels in Cabo Rojo are scheduled to start operations by the end of 2024, being the one to be managed by Iberostar the first to start, according to official statements.

In its first phase, the projection is that Cabo Rojo will have 4,700 hotel rooms in operation, of the 12,000 that the development contemplates in a period of 10 years.

In the case of Punta Bergantín, the hope for the resurgence of the hotel industry in Puerto Plata, several tourism groups and developers of the highest level, such as Hyatt, Meliá, Grupo Puntacana, Martinón, among others, have already launched their projects within the mega-complex, which is expected to have 6,000 hotel rooms, as well as 3,000 residential rooms and an academic campus to promote education and innovation in the country.
