The president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES), Rafael Blanco Tejera, stressed that the sector generates more than 570,000 direct and indirect jobs and that this year the country will close with more than eight billion four hundred million dollars of income.
ASONAHORES celebrated the 5th edition of its “Tourism Investment Forum” with an end of year with historic figures in the sector, including investments of more than one billion dollars in projects in 2022.
Blanco Tejera also estimated that foreign investment in tourism represents more than 30% of the total that enters the DR, with a total impact on 16% of GDP.
“And this success that we have achieved as a country is due to the existence of a clear public-private policy to support the tourism sector, which has led us to create an ecosystem that works, based on six fundamental pillars: investment promotion policy, fiscal stability with clear long-term policies, workforce stability, tourism infrastructure, an aggressive air connectivity policy and, finally, the great public-private partnership that we have managed to forge, which has ensured the structuring of a unified strategy to boost the sector,” said Blanco Tejera.
GOVERNOR BC RECOGNIZED. As part of the event, the Governor of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu, was awarded for his contributions to the tourism sector.
The award was presented by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, together with the CEO of Grupo Piñero, Encarna Piñero, the president of Banco Popular Dominicano, Cristopher Paniagua, the administrator of Banreservas, Samuel Pereyra, and the president of Asonahores, Blanco Tejera.
During the forum, ASONAHORES awarded the transaction of the year, which went to the Excel Group, represented by its president, Alberto Cruz, which distinguished itself for the acquisition of the Silversun Gallery tower, where the Embassy Suites hotel in Santo Domingo is located.
The Forum featured presentations by: Raúl Hernández, technical director of the Dominican Association of Pension Fund Administrators, ADFP, in the panel “Pension Funds – Current events, perspective and importance for tourism”.
In the second panel of the event “Role of institutional investment in tourism assets”, participated: Raúl Hoyo, general manager ALTIO; Carlos Cobiella, developer Dorado Park; Encarna Piñero, CEO Grupo Piñero and Yamil Isaias, vice president Pioneer Investment Found.
The fourth edition of the forum was held in the Garden Tent of the Embajador Hotel.
