Aviation leaders discuss air connectivity strategy in Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is hosting Connect New World, a forum where aviation decision-makers participate in a series of seminars with high-level speakers and one-on-one meetings to discuss connectivity strategies.

The inauguration of the meeting, which is being held until Thursday, June 1, in the events room on the fifth floor of the JW Marriott Hotel, was attended by the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña; the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and the director of Aerodom, Mónika Infante.

Thanks to the efforts of Aerodom and VINCI Airports together with the Ministry of Tourism, the Dominican Republic was selected to host this important international event in recognition of the recovery of post-pandemic air traffic and the performance of the tourism industry.

Throughout its history, Connect has established itself as one of the main meeting points for airlines, airports and tourism authorities to discuss air transport strategy in the region.

The event is attended by directors and executives of airlines, airports and service companies in the air transportation industry.

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, said that “in the last two years we have had an exemplary performance in this industry and we are convinced that, through shared experiences, the identification of solutions to global challenges and openness to new strategies, we will be able to take tourism development to new levels”.

Collado highlighted that the country has some 5,750 flights and an occupancy rate that exceeds 85%. “Our country believes in connectivity,” he said.

“We are making history, as it will be here where airlines, airports and tourism authorities will define and discuss the strategy for air transport in the region, which we are confident will allow us to have new routes and frequencies to more destinations,” said Aerodom’s general director, Mónika Infante.

Infante highlighted the impact that air connectivity has on the development of a country, as it is the main way to integrate into the world economy.

Connect is a route development event established by The Airport Agency. The forum offers its participants unlimited face-to-face meetings and a diverse conference program, as well as social events including evening functions, morning activities and excursions.
