Consolidation of tourism industry is a priority, says DR President

President Luis Abinader assured that the empowerment, sustained growth and consolidation of the tourism industry is a priority to which the government of the Dominican Republic is giving the utmost importance.

“This industry has been one of the sectors that has contributed the most to the Dominican economic recovery after the negative effects of the global pandemic of the coronavirus,” said the President at the inauguration of the Margaritaville Island Reserve Cap Cana by Karisma hotel.

This five-star hotel complex was built with a private investment of US$175 million. It is expected to immediately generate 2,200 direct and indirect jobs.

ECONOMY IN RECOVERY: BETTER TIMES ARE AHEAD
He informed that “the country’s economy is being restored to health, reaching an unprecedented rate of growth in a situation of crisis, while at the same time it is once again efficiently creating jobs, which represents one of the great objectives of our administration”.

“You can be sure that the best times for the Dominican Republic, in tourism, are yet to come,” he affirmed.

He stressed that the government’s efforts are firmly oriented towards supporting the various actors involved in tourism activity, its promotion and the improvement of its facilities.

“And in this sense, we bet on the investments made by the private sector that undoubtedly produce growth and development to our country and are in line with the idea that we defend from the State of mutual collaboration between the Government and the business sector,” he said.

REBOUND IN TOURISM ACTIVITY
Abinader said that the inauguration of this magnificent hotel proposal comes at a great moment for tourism in the country, within the framework of the excellent data on the rebound of national tourism activity recently presented.

He pointed out that “these data ratify the Dominican Republic as one of the most important tourist destinations in the world today”.

He explained that this hotel project has 519 rooms, including 40 spectacular luxury villas and a beautiful suite to ensure the comfort and relaxation of its guests with the highest levels of quality.

CAP CANA PRESIDENT PRAISES EFFORTS
The president of Cap Cana, Fernando Hazoury, said that the future of the Dominican tourism sector is led by a positively atypical president who is working to ensure that it continues to be the main source of recovery of the economy and who is very clear about what needs to be done to make it happen.

On his side, the general administrator of Banreservas, Samuel Pereyra, informed that the institution he directs supported with an investment in the financial area equivalent to 38 million dollars, equivalent to a significant 58.46% of participation, through an initiative that he assumes jointly with other important banking entities such as Scotiabanks and Banesco.

Father Angel de la Rosa was in charge of the blessing of the activity. Also present were the Minister of Labor, Luis Miguel de Camps; the governor of the province of La Altagracia, Martina Pepén; the general director of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón; the director of Public-Private Alliances, Sigmund Freund and the director of Prodominicana, Biviana Riveiro.
