The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, while leading the opening of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE), called on the country to take care of the tourism industry, since it is the sector that generates the greatest income for the nation’s economy.
He said that the Dominican Republic’s success in the recovery of tourism is a sign of hope, a response of what happens when all sectors work together in search of a common good.
The official said that the Dominican Republic is in fashion, and DATE is a clear example of this, breaking the record with 30% more, 6,000 business appointments, 232 companies and 700 delegates.
Rafael Blanco Tejera, president of ASONAHORES, said that the country has been worthy of recognition by the UNWTO, thanks to the set of actors in the public and private sector, the strategies created, market opening, diversification of supply, and the implementation of innovative strategies.
“This distinction fills us with great pride and teaches us that intentions overcome challenges when determination, communication, trust and the courage of all are united in the pursuit of the common good,” said Rafael Blanco.
It is recalled that the WTO recognized the Dominican Republic as the first country in the world to achieve the recovery of tourism after the pandemic of COVID-19.
The president of ASONAHORES indicated that this new version of DATE has been designed as an interactive business platform, where the most important proposals of the national tourism industry converge.
This edition of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) organized by the Dominican Association of Hotels and Tourism (ASONAHORES) will be held from May 11 to 13, 2022, at the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center, Punta Cana.
The DATE fair is the main business meeting between international travel agents and tour operators and suppliers of the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry. This is the first version held after being suspended for two years due to Covid-19.
