Director General of Onapi reports on his 2020-2024 term in office

The general director of the National Industrial Property Office (Onapi), Dr. Salvador Ramos, highlighted the achievements of his four-year term at the head of this institution, highlighting the services offered to citizens, while at the same time the physical transformations can be seen in the same.

Ramos said that Onapi has been strengthened thanks to the support of President Luis Abinader, who has integrated this entity to the group of technological services of the highest level for the public service.

He pointed out the approach to the citizenship and the reduction to the shortest possible time in the services, which satisfies the public and generates a significant increase in the applications for Distinctive Signs and Inventions.

Internal processes have been strengthened with technological tools that allow for greater follow-up on service requests.

The services that have been included in the Eserpi online platform have been: renewal of trade names, collective marks, certification marks, geographical indication, appellation of origin, multimedia mark, position mark and trade dress.

The general director of Onapi said that the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, under the leadership of Victor Bisonó, has also been a pillar in supporting the requirements and meetings that have been held to strengthen the work in common.

The official added that during the last four years, 261,919 applications for trade names and 54,555 trademark applications have been received, which shows a significant increase in the awareness of the importance of protecting distinctive signs in the citizenship.

In addition, 1,082 patents of invention and 115 industrial designs have been granted, both nationally and internationally.

Other highlights include: 4 international agreements signed, among others with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, adhesion to the Latin American IP and Gender Network, the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the Latin American School of Industrial Property (Elapi).

Fifteen national agreements have also been signed, including with Supérate, Proindustria, Intec, PUCMM, Herrera Industrial Association, among others.
