The Dominican Government and the United Nations System (UNS) held their III Political Dialogue, in which they identified opportunities and coordinated efforts for the fulfillment of the United Nations Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development 2023-2027, agreed by both parties.
The meeting, headed by Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez; Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Pável Isa Contreras; and the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mauricio Ramírez Villegas, served to socialize the main actions contemplated under this Cooperation Framework on the themes of “Equality and Social Inclusion”, “Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity”, “Climate Change, Risks and Environmental Sustainability”, and “Human Rights, Citizen Security and Institutionality”.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the Dominican Republic has assumed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 2030 Agenda, as a national priority and State commitment, with the intention that the actors that are in the different multilateral spaces can, to the extent of their possibilities, support the achievement of these goals.
We recognize the importance of multilateralism and of working together with the United Nations System and the different entities involved, with a view to accelerating the process to achieve the SDGs in the country. From MIREX we are committed to work for the cornerstone of the Dominican Constitution and the values of our nation, which is human dignity.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Isa Contreras, expressed that the Government is working to improve the quality of life of the people in the territory, guaranteeing their fundamental rights and generating opportunities for their development.
For his part, the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mauricio Ramírez, indicated that “all the agencies, funds and programs of the United Nations are an ally of the Dominican State, the country and its people, and by signing this document, they join forces with the Dominican Government to work together, generating alliances and mobilizing resources for the effective implementation and follow-up of the Cooperation Framework, placing at the center the commitment to leave no person, population group and territory behind”.
The United Nations Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development 2023-2027 was negotiated by the Dominican Government and the United Nations System in 2022, and contains the long-term strategy and vision for the country to achieve inclusive, resilient and sustainable development, which will honor the promise of the government of President Luis Abinader to “leave no one behind”.
Likewise, the conversation recalled the great achievements and results obtained as a result of the “United Nations Development Assistance Framework – Dominican Republic 2018-2022”, which defined the areas of intervention of the agencies of the United Nations System in the country based on their experience and capacities.
The political dialogue, a high-level space to address issues of interest to the parties involved in the foreign policy framework, was attended by the Deputy Minister of Multilateral Foreign Policy, Rubén Silié; and the Deputy Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Economy, Planning, Development, Olaya Dotel.
