Dominican Republic economy to grow 5 percent in 2014

According to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean

Dominican Republic’s economy will grow 5 percent in 2014, ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean), forecast on Wednesday.

In a report released in Santiago de Chile, the UN agency projected a 3.2% growth for Latin American and Caribbean to economies in 2014, more than the 2.6 percent projected for this year.

The preliminary overview of the regional economies says the modest economic performance in 2013, initially predicted at around 3% in July, stems from a sluggish external demand, heightened international financial volatility and a fall in consumption.

“The scenario of the world economy to poses opportunities and threats Latin America and the Caribbean in 2014”, said Economic Commission for Latin America and the CaribbeanExecutive Secretary Alica Bárcena.
