Dominican Republic’s first ambassador to the Bahamas appointed

Ambassador Angie Martinez presented her credentials to Governor Cornelius Alvin Smith, making her the first extraordinary ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

At the protocol ceremony, the new ambassador expressed that her appointment demonstrates the importance that the Dominican Republic gives to diplomatic relations with the Bahamas, she also said that her appointment gives way to a new vision of foreign policy.

“We are committed to strengthen and deepen the ties of friendship and collaboration with the Bahamas to make deeper, closer and more solid collaborations,” said the ambassador.

Governor Smith congratulated the new ambassador on her appointment and expressed his interest in establishing direct flights between the two nations to foster economic growth, cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

Smith said Ambassador Martinez “is in a unique position” to understand the realities of Caribbean people and their different realities.
