The Dominican Republic and Colombia held the VII Meeting of the Joint Commission for Technical, Scientific, Educational and Cultural Cooperation, chaired by Álvaro Calderón Ponce de León, Director of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia and the Vice Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development of the Dominican Republic, Olaya Ondina Dotel.
The meeting resulted in the signing of the 2023-2025 Cooperation Program, which will include fourteen (14) projects in the areas of peace, environment, education, agriculture, social innovation, culture, institutional strengthening, labor and energy.
A program of special relevance, as it is the largest cooperation portfolio since cooperation relations were established between the Dominican Republic and Colombia. This new agenda ratifies the commitment of both countries in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Director Calderón, head of the Colombian delegation, pointed out that this space allows for the strengthening of joint work ties, such as the importance of South-South cooperation for bilateral relations.
He also thanked the willingness and commitment of the executing entities and those in charge of cooperation in both countries, since they achieved a positive execution of the projects included in the 2020-2022 portfolio.
Vice Minister Dotel, head of the Dominican Republic Delegation, highlighted the importance of the significance of the friendly relations with Colombia, in which the country leads an important agenda for environmental protection and mentioned the affinities in the development agendas of both countries.
The Dominican ambassador, Félix Aracena Vargas, expressed his gratitude to the Colombian government for supporting the country’s development through these important cooperation projects. He also congratulated all the Colombian and Dominican institutions for their support and efforts in coordinating this Comixta.
On the Dominican side, this meeting was attended by Clara Aquino, Director General of Bilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development and Gisselle Rodriguez, in charge of Bilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic.
On the Colombian side, the director of Cultural Affairs of Colombia, Luis Armando Soto Boutin; the Colombian ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Dario Villamizar, and the general director of the Presidential Agency for International Cooperation, APC-Colombia, Eleonora Betancur Gonzalez.
The meeting was attended by important institutions of the Dominican Republic such as the National Security Council, the Ombudsman, the Dominican Federation of Municipalities, the Institute of Professional Technical Training, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, the Memorial Museum of the Dominican Resistance, MESCYT, among others.
