DR and US collaborate to promote tourism in the country

In an effort to strengthen trade relations and attract investment in the semiconductor sector, an important meeting was held between representatives of the Government of the RD and senior officials of the United States Department of State and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

A Dominican delegation headed by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Víctor Bisonó, and composed of Johannes Kelner, Vice-Minister of Free Trade Zones and Special Regimes of the MICM, and Samuel Conde and Ike Tavares, both representing the Dominican private sector, traveled to the United States for the meeting.

During the meeting, they discussed the plans and actions that the RD will implement in the coming months to attract investment in the semiconductor sector.

RD Presents projects

The Dominican delegation presented a series of projects and strategies aimed at positioning the country as an attractive destination for companies in this sector. The meeting also identified the challenges facing the country to achieve this goal, such as the need to improve the preparation of human capital and develop a solid strategy to promote the RD as a manufacturing destination for the semiconductor industry.

In addition, collaboration projects between Usaid and the RD in the area of nearshoring were discussed, with the objective of strengthening the country’s capacity to take advantage of the opportunities offered by this trend in international trade.

During this meeting, U.S. officials were positive about the plans presented by the Dominican delegation, emphasizing that the country is on the right track to attract investment in the semiconductor sector. They also expressed their commitment to support the RD in its efforts to attract companies interested in establishing operations in the country.

Minister Bisonó said that the meeting represents an important step in strengthening trade relations between the RD and the United States, and lays the groundwork for future investment and economic development collaborations.

The official reaffirmed at the bilateral meeting his commitment to work closely together to boost economic growth and job creation in the RD, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by strategic sectors such as semiconductors and nearshoring.
