During his participation in the XXI International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC), the executive director of the Open Government Partnership, Sanjay Pradhan, said that the Dominican Republic is one of the first countries to create a civic space against corruption, highlighting the work that has been carried out in the country in recent years to make the State more transparent.
It should be recalled that this is not the first time that Pradhan highlights the country’s progress in this area, since in 2022, during the America Abierta event, he described the government of Luis Abinader as a bright spot for the region and the world, in terms of transparency and institutionality.
In addition to this recognition, the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, in a speech at the Summit for Democracy, where he spoke with world leaders and praised the fact that the country has modernized its fight against corruption, with the creation, at the local level, of the Commissions of Government Integrity and Regulatory Compliance (CIGCN), enabled by the General Directorate of Ethics and Government Integrity (DIGEIG).
The International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) is a global event that brings together leaders, activists, academics, government and civil society representatives, as well as business and media, to address and combat corruption worldwide. This event is held every two years and provides an important space to discuss strategies, share best practices and promote transparency and integrity in all sectors of society.
The IACC focuses on issues such as governance, accountability, business ethics and the impact of corruption on economic and social development. It also facilitates the creation of collaborative networks among various actors involved in the fight against corruption, thus promoting effective international dialogue and concrete actions to strengthen institutions and combat this global problem.
