DR to host Best Practices Workshop with the participation of 12 countries

Within the framework of the Alliance for Economic Prosperity of the Americas (APEP), the Directorate General of Ethics and Government Integrity (DIGEIG) was chosen to deliver the “Workshop on Best Practices to Strengthen Transparency, Implementation and Guidance with Government Integrity and Compliance Commissions”.

Likewise, the DIGEIG was designated by the U.S. Department of State and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) to represent the Dominican Republic leading the working group, “Rule of Law and Transparency”, which is one of the pillars of the axes under the responsibility of MIREX in the APEP.

In this meeting, the DIGEIG will present the process of transformation, evolution and change of the former Public Ethics Commissions into Government Integrity and Regulatory Compliance Commissions, which to date have 208 Commissions constituted and qualified, which are trained in ISO Risk, Anti-bribery and Complicit Standards to prevent administrative corruption.

Currently, these commissions are creating their behavioral risk maps to anticipate, identify and mitigate the factors that can lead to corruption, ensuring more transparency and citizen participation.

In this workshop, together with the Dominican Republic, the Republic of Chile will be presenting its good practices in the public procurement process.

The event will take place at the DIGEIG headquarters next Wednesday, July 10, 2024, with virtual participation of the United States, Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay, Mexico, Canada, Barbados, Chile and the Dominican Republic, members of APEP.

The Workshop will be accompanied by representatives of the U.S. Department of State, Bredan Boundy; Ambassador DR MFA Official, Lisa Kubiske, for the American Embassy; Ariel Jahner, Daniel Butterfoss, Scott Hedlund, Rebecca Márquez, Rosa Rodríguez Mera and Lissette Dumit for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as well as representatives of the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ethics Office.

The Alliance for Economic Prosperity of the Americas (APEP) is a regional initiative of U.S. President Joe Biden that seeks to promote economic development, security and good governance in Latin American countries.

This program focuses on areas such as citizen security and the creation of economic opportunities.
