The project has 4 phases with an investment of US$2,245 million.

The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, said this Sunday that the tourism development of Pedernales is one of the most important bets of his administration, as it represents an opportunity to transform the lives of thousands of people in this province and the southern region.

“This project, which begins in Cabo Rojo, and in which we have put all our efforts, will mark a before and after in the tourism development of our nation,” he said.

He explained that the project will be carried out in four phases, during a total average period of 10 years, and with an estimated investment of $2.245 billion dollars.

He added that the first phase stipulates an investment of 1.3 billion dollars for the construction of 4,700 rooms, which will become 12,000 at the end of the project.

“Eight hotels will begin operations during the opening of that first phase, for which the hotel chains Hilton, Marriott, Sunwing, AmResorts, Iberostar Group and Karisma Hotels & Resort have already signed a letter of commitment to begin construction as of the middle of this year,” Abinader explained in his address to the General Assembly, where this February 27, National Independence Day, he is rendering an account to the nation.

He indicated that this first phase will also include the construction of an international airport, a commercial center and the completion of all the necessary basic infrastructure works, such as the construction of an aqueduct, a water treatment plant and an electrical transmission system.

“The development of this new and spectacular tourist center will create close to 20,000 direct jobs and more than 50,000 indirect jobs, with all that this implies for the economic dynamism of the region”, said the President.
