Government and FedEx sign agreement to encourage, train and support Dominican MSMEs

The Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana) and FedEx signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of encouraging, training and supporting Dominican micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to export their products and services in a more agile, economical and simple way.

The agreement was signed by Biviana Riveiro Disla, executive director of ProDominicana, and Basil Khalil, vice president of FedEx Express Operations for the Caribbean and Central America, at the Miami-Dade Beacon Council offices.

This agreement offers ProDominicana’s clients a portfolio of products and services at preferential rates, as well as training workshops on topics related to foreign trade, customs and international transportation, among others.

“We are working hard on the internationalization of Dominican MSMEs and on strategically increasing exports, through alliances such as this one that allow us to achieve the effective insertion of our country in global markets. We want to increase the competitiveness of our country and we are sure that, working together with companies like FedEx, we will achieve our objectives and levels of competitiveness,” said Biviana Riveiro Disla, executive director of ProDominicana.

Importance of MSMEs in the Dominican economy
Since FedEx began operations in the Dominican Republic almost 35 years ago, this market has been a strategic priority for the company, and we know the important role that MSMEs play in the country’s economy and future, said Basil Khalil, vice president of FedEx Express Operations for the Caribbean and Central America.

“This alliance with ProDominicana deepens our commitment to support MSMEs with global trade and logistics resources and solutions to expand their business internationally,” he added.

This collaboration agreement combines ProDominicana’s mission to identify opportunities and guide Dominican companies to place their products in international markets, with FedEx’s portfolio of services and solutions and access to its extensive global network that extends to 220 countries and territories.
