As part of an institutional collaboration agreement, the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) delivered to the Presidential Security Corps (Cusep) a batch of state-of-the-art equipment to strengthen security around the National Palace, the main seat of the Dominican Government.
The devices delivered by the general director of the IDAC, Héctor Porcella, to the head of the Cusep, Major General Jimmy Arias Grullón (ERD), are designed for the detection, neutralization and deactivation of drones that could eventually operate in restricted areas, as is the case of the National Palace.
After receiving the collaboration of the IDAC, General Arias Grullón explained that the equipment can be used for radio frequency detection; to identify drones and controllers within a radius of 1 mile, using frequency bands from 1 megahertz to 6 gigahertz.
It will also be useful for video classification and detection with a range of at least one kilometer, and for the neutralization and deactivation of drones that could pose a security risk.
The sophisticated devices have the capacity to establish flight path projection and use data from multiple sensors to predict flight paths for any aerial navigation device.
According to the Cusep director’s explanations, the new equipment provides an additional layer of protection to the presidential headquarters, ensuring a quick and effective response to any eventuality related to unauthorized drones.
Porcella indicated that, with the delivery of the equipment, the IDAC fulfills a commitment established between the two institutions to complement their responsibilities in matters of strategic security.
The delivery of the equipment took place during a brief ceremony held at the IDAC headquarters in Santo Domingo.
