Inauguration of extended day school in Las Terrenas

The President of the Republic Luis Abinader, together with the Minister of Education Roberto Fulcar, the Minister of Public Works Deligne Ascensión and other national and provincial authorities, inaugurated this Sunday a modern educational center in the municipality of Las Terrenas. The school will accommodate hundreds of students of different educational levels, as well as special education students.

In his opening speech, the Minister of Education, Roberto Fulcar, said that each new educational center that is inaugurated constitutes a step forward in the creation of material and environmental conditions to successfully implement the programs and projects necessary for the transformation of Dominican education.

According to Minister Fulcar, this is a determined policy of the government of President Luis Abinader, to sustainably improve the school physical plant, with the recovery and adaptation of the old school park, the completion of schools found unfinished and the start of other works.

She said that if we add to this the attention and support given by the present government to the Dominican teachers and the promotion of formidable plans and projects of high impact, there is no doubt that the government administration of Luis Abinader is putting on track the transformation of Dominican education.

Likewise, Deligne Ascensión, Minister of Public Works and Communications, said that it is a great satisfaction for him to hand over to MINERD this center in Las Terrenas, thus fulfilling the commitment of President Luis Abinader to conclude all the schools that had been stopped for many years.

The best way to achieve the development of a country, of you as a person and of your families is through education,” he said. As a result of education, a child born in La Rancha and another one in San Carlos, today have been able to reach the position of ministers, so study and do not stop”, said Deligne.

About the school
The Las Terrenas Educational Center, located in the La Granja community of Educational District 14-07, consists of four blocks that house 29 classrooms, administrative area, kitchen, computer and science laboratory, infirmary, nursing area, bathrooms, multipurpose room, dining room type a-360, perimeter fence, civic plaza, recreation areas, green areas, cistern, double court with bleachers and parking lots.
The school will benefit students from the Caño Seco, Obra Grande, Monte Adentro and El Manantial sectors, among other localities, who will receive education, food and other services throughout the day, totally free of charge.

Thus, La Pacuala school has 13 classrooms for 555 students, a dining room, a mixed court, 2 blocks, a library, an infirmary, a warehouse, a computer lab, a special classroom, a workshop classroom, among other facilities.

Jorge Luis Suriel, director of district 14-04, said that this delivery reaffirms the Government’s commitment to ensure the country comfortable classrooms and suitable spaces to provide the Dominican Republic with a model of education according to the needs of the new times”, he said.

Speaking on behalf of the students, Sarah Margarita Vásquez Lalane, a third grade student, expressed her gratitude to the President for the delivery of these facilities, which will benefit many generations that until now lacked the necessary spaces to be educated.

Marcos Argelis Vásquez, from the parish of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, advised the students to discover in their teachers the presence of God, so that enriched with both human and divine science, they may become people prepared to enlighten and help others.
