Indian Foreign Minister to visit Dominican Republic

India’s Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, will pay an official visit to the Dominican Republic from Thursday 27 to Saturday 29 April, during which he will complete an agenda that includes the inauguration of the Embassy of that country and the unveiling of a statue to Mahatma Gandhi.

This is India’s highest level visit since the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Dominican Republic in 1999, explains the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country in a note detailing the agenda of the foreign minister.

The Indian foreign minister will arrive in the Dominican Republic after an agenda in the region that will take him to Guyana (April 21-23), Panama (April 24-25) and Colombia (April 25-27).

“The Minister’s visit follows the establishment of our resident Embassy in Santo Domingo in 2022. In addition to calling on the country’s political leaders, the minister will hold talks with Chancellor Roberto Alvarez,” it was reported.

Friday

On Friday, April 28, at 11:30 am, a business meeting between the Dominican Republic and the Republic of India is scheduled to be held with the participation of the Indian Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Alvarez, at the Mirex Convention Center.

The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with welcoming remarks by Roberto Alvarez and Jaishankar.

Embassy

The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, April 28, 2023, at 6:00 p.m., at Calle Cesar Nicolas Penson 109, La Esperilla, Distrito Nacional.

Saturday

On Saturday, April 29, at 10:45 a.m., the inauguration of the Permanent Pavilion dedicated to India at El Faro a Colon is scheduled, an act that will be presided over by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of that country.

The Embassy of India in Santo Domingo is also announcing the unveiling of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Mahatma Gandhi Square, located in the triangle formed by Simon Bolivar, Jose Contreras and Pedro Ignacio Espaillat Avenues, in the Gazcue sector, on Saturday, April 29 at 10:00 am.

The ceremony will be presided over by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of India.
