Indrhi presents magazine “Four Years of Change Management”.

The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (Indrhi) presented the magazine “Four years of the management of change”, where it exhibits works and projects executed in the framework of the 2020-2024 management, as achievements in the face of the water transformation and the promotion of food security in the country, with its executive director, Olmedo Caba Romano, at the helm.

Among the works, they highlighted the Monte Grande Dam Multiple Project, initiated in 2014 with the objective of mitigating floods in the lower basin of the Yaque del Sur and whose completion was made possible by the commitment of continuity of State works assumed by President Luis Abinader. They also emphasized that the dam is regulating the flow of the river and that progress is being made in its complementary works.

They also presented the Azua II-Pueblo Viejo Agricultural Development Project, received at 41% completion and restarted by the Caba Romano administration. To date, some five reservoirs have been delivered, plus the installation of 500 floodgates, the installation of 65 kilometers of berms and the rehabilitation of 34 km of canals, actions that have had an impact on 7,000 users and have incorporated 200,000 tareas to production.

As for the Resilient Agriculture and Integrated Water Resources Management Project (PARGIRH), also rescued by the current administration and implemented to increase access to water and the resilience of hydraulic infrastructures in the Yaque del Norte and Ozama-Isabela basins, they indicated that it is in the design phase, under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (Mepyd), with the support of the Water Cabinet and financing from the World Bank.

Regarding user service operations, they highlighted the provision of heavy equipment to the institution, such as amphibians, excavators, motor graders, among others. This has made it possible to intervene in more than 4,000 kilometers of canals and drains in these four years.

Blas Domínguez, from the executive committee of the National Irrigation Council (CNR), thanked the management of the Indrhi for the presence of the technicians of the water agency in permanent support to the irrigators. He said that as a result of the good administration of the water in the dams, the drought was overcome without significant losses.

The governing body of the surface water system emphasized the medical care and constant training provided to human resources and highlighted its first public tender held in 2022. Finally, they emphasized the permanent role of raising awareness about the preservation of water resources, through the Water Culture program, promoted in this period with the reopening of its Water Room.

The launching held at the Indrhi headquarters, was attended by the executive committee of the CNR, regional and departmental directors of the entity, as well as the media.
