The National Water Resources Institute (Indrhi) received four heavy equipment for institutional strengthening as part of the Resilient Agriculture and Integrated Water Resources Management Project (PARGIRH), financed by the World Bank.
The equipment was received by its executive director, Olmedo Caba Romano, as part of the development activities of component no. 2 of the project, which focuses on improving the resilience and management of water infrastructure.
The equipment received by Indrhi was a bulldozer and three backhoes, including one conventional and two long reach, defined by the authorities of the entity as vital for the maintenance of the irrigation systems and the agricultural development of the country.
They indicated that the first operations will be carried out in an extension of 29 kilometers of the Mao-Gurabo canal and in 6.8 km of the Luis Bogaert canal, actions that will impact the irrigation of 147,980 tareas, directly benefiting 1,943 producers.
Subsequently, the Villa Vásquez canal will be intervened, which has an extension of 9.44 km and will allow the irrigation of 164,694 tareas, benefiting 1,978 producers. Work will continue on irrigation systems in the Yaque del Norte basin.
PARGIRH aims to improve the quality of life of families in the Yaque del Norte and Ozama-Isabela watersheds by increasing access to drinking water and sanitation, improving the resilience of hydraulic infrastructures and promoting ecosystem-friendly production practices.
In its execution participate, in addition to Indrhi, the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewage; the Ministries, of Agriculture and of Environment and Natural Resources, under the regulatory supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (Mepyd).
