The Instituto Nacional de Formación Técnico Profesional (Infotep) and the Instituto de Desarrollo y Crédito Cooperativo (Idecoop), certified 800 participants, members and managers of cooperatives, in different competencies related to their work, as part of the program Support for the development and management of cooperatives in the Dominican Republic.
The certificates were given to 90 participants in a ceremony held at the Infotep Institutional Corporate Building, headed by its deputy general director, Maira Morla, and Franco De Los Santos, president and administrator of Idecoop.
Morla highlighted the importance of cooperatives in the national economic system and the institution’s commitment to contribute to their development.
“Cooperatives are important economic agents: They offer an enterprise model that is particularly relevant in times of economic difficulties and market deficiencies,” Morla expressed.
He also indicated that, with this project, Infotep, together with Idecoop, continues to support the management and development of cooperatives in the Dominican Republic, to create productive jobs, increase income and help reduce poverty, favoring social inclusion and the promotion of Dominican communities.
De Los Santos affirmed that, within the framework of the institutional agreement, both entities are making great efforts to provide training in order to strengthen the management capacities of Dominican cooperatives.
He emphasized that, through this project, 48 training sessions were held in areas such as customer service, cost management, strategic planning and sales, with the participation of 800 members of more than 245 cooperatives from different parts of the country.
“We are extremely happy with the important step we are taking today, together with the National Institute of Technical Professional Training (Infotep), to strengthen the cooperative sector in the country”, said De Los Santos.
The certification corresponds to the first stage of the program, proposed for the year 2023, in which these members and managers have been trained in the following competencies: customer service, sales, cost management and strategic planning.
A representation of the participants from the cooperatives of the provinces of Gran Santo Domingo, Barahona, San Cristóbal, La Romana, La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís and Hato Mayor was present at the certificate-giving ceremony.
