Proposes granting licenses to tourist guides trained as technicians

The senator for the province of La Romana, Iván Silva, presented a draft resolution requesting the Ministry of Tourism to issue tourist guide cards to those persons who have completed the technical course given by the Institute of Technical Professional Training (Infotep).

During his speech in the Senate, the legislator presented the resolution which seeks to “facilitate” the regulation of the professional practice of tourist guides, as well as the “tranquility” of visitors.

In his arguments, Silva recalled that Law number 541, Organic Law of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, establishes that no person may exercise the activity of tourist guide “without a credential issued by the Ministry of Tourism”.

He pointed out that at present there are many tourist guides who have graduated or are being trained with the course given by the Infotep, but who do not have the license that enables the exercise.

“If the required number is accredited and the companies that offer tourism services are obliged to hire the services of these, the tourist experience can be more comfortable and safer”, said the Congressman.
