A total of 125 new police officers will reinforce the work of surveillance, patrolling and citizen security in Puerto Plata in view of the great increase in tourist activities.
This was confirmed by the commander of the National Police based in Puerto Plata, General Jorge Luis Galán Guerrero, who guaranteed that the uniformed officers immediately began to work on crime prevention.
“Although Puerto Plata is one of the safest provinces in the country due to the effective work of the 24/7 preventive patrols, the arrival of these reinforcement police officers who were distributed in different locations does us good,” he said.
He thanked the general director of the institution of order, Ramon Antonio Guzmán Peralta, for adding agents to “La Novia del Atlántico” which is a tourist destination of international importance, according to El Nuevo Diario.
“As it is well known, at the present time Puerto Plata is the principal destination of the cruise tourism in the whole Caribbean area, since here arrive every week transatlantic ships bringing on board thousands of visitors”, he expressed.
Galán Guerrero praised the effectiveness of the mixed patrols carried out by police agents assigned to the Northern Regional Direction and the Puerto Plata Air Base commanded by Brigadier General Manuel Abad García Lithgow.
He said that the perception that businessmen, merchants and representatives of different social segments in Puerto Plata have, is that due to the great work carried out by military and police, security is guaranteed.
