The best December for tourism in the Dominican Republic

In the midst of the pandemic, the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry has just recorded its best December ever.

The news was revealed by Dominican Republic Tourism Minister David Collado during an end-of-year briefing.

As many as 728,335 visitors arrived in the Dominican Republic last month, a total higher even than the previous record in 2018, when some 650,000 tourists came to the country.

For the minister, ‘while other destinations continued with negative figures, we worked and surpassed ourselves in a historic way. We managed to close with the best December in the history of tourism in the Dominican Republic’.

The Dominican Republic’s tourist center accounted for about 50% of those arrivals, followed by Santo Domingo’s Las Americas airport, which accounted for about 26%.

North American visitors continued to dominate arrivals to the country, accounting for 61%.

The Dominican Republic also reported 165,609 cruise passengers last December, representing a 268% increase over November 2021 data.
