Ministry of Tourism inaugurates Cabrera seawall

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, together with the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, inaugurated the new Cabrera seawall, in this province, built at a cost of more than 73 million pesos.

This project included the construction of the coastline of the Cabrera seawall of about 600 linear meters, for the creation of a linear park with a total intervention area of 7,350 square meters, within which will be carried out the works of about 2,170 square meters of sidewalks and 1,367 linear meters of curbs.

The work includes pedestrian walkways, universal access ramps, landscaping, plazas, a children’s play area, as well as a space for group exercises, a gymnasium and an amphitheater.

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, said that this work marks a before and after in the development of tourism in Cabrera.

“With this work we are fulfilling a long-standing desire of the residents of this beautiful municipality and we mark the definitive take-off of tourism here in Cabrera”, said Minister Collado, who explained that all these works will be distributed in 4 main squares, duly illuminated.

The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, highlighted the importance of the work, as well as the contribution that tourism makes to the economy.

“A good example of this development is here today, in Cabrera, one of the northeastern municipalities with the most tourist attractions in the whole country, due to its strategic location in front of the Atlantic Ocean”.

The event was also attended by the rector of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo, Julio Mariñez, who chairs the union of universities that supervised the bidding process for this project in order to ensure the transparency of the process.

The Fishermen’s Plaza will have a length of 44.23 linear meters, with an area of 376.69 square meters, while the Central Plaza (A-B) will have a photographic viewpoint, with a total area of 2,162 square meters. In which there is an amphitheater, social areas, as well as a group exercise area and gymnasium.

Likewise, the Plaza del Cañón has a space of 40.25 square meters, where the pedestrian area is hierarchized with the creation of a composition of 3 porticos; as well as delimiting the historical vestiges of a canyon in the area. Cabrera is one of the municipalities with the most tourist attractions in the country, strategically located on the northeastern promontory and facing the Atlantic Ocean.

The renovation of this boardwalk will bring to the municipality a greater economic boom, since more visitors will come from other areas, as well as from other parts of the country.

Minister Collado and Vice President Peña also started the construction of the pedestrian path from Lorenzo Álvarez Street to Duarte Street, at a cost of more than US$1.5 million.

The inauguration of the boardwalk and the kick-off ceremony were held as part of the celebration of the Tourism in Every Corner platform, this being the third destination where it takes place.

Turismo en Cada Rincón is the ideal space to promote and strengthen domestic tourism in the Dominican Republic, where all the actors of the sector show their products and services in order to make known what each place in the country has to offer.

On this occasion, the event was held in the central park of Cabrera, María Trinidad Sánchez province, where the different tourism value chains exhibited and sold their products, as well as a display of art and culture.
