Transformer in Higüey substation put into operation

In a continuing effort to improve and modernize the electrical infrastructure in the eastern region of the country, Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este (Edeeste) inaugurated a new 40 MVA 138/12.5 kV transformer at the Higüey 138 substation.

This project is a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to provide a robust and reliable electricity supply to the province.

The event was attended by local authorities, including Monsignor Jesús Castro Marte, bishop of the Diocese of La Altagracia; Lic. Martina Pepén Santana, governor of the province, and other government and community representatives.

Bishop Castro, in addition to blessing the work, highlighted the work that the distributor has been doing for the benefit of the community of Higüey.

“We value the management of our friend Manuel Naut, we are making progress in the province”, said Castro.

During his speech, Eng. Manuel Mejía Naut highlighted that the investment in this transformer, which amounts to RD 169.8 million, will not only strengthen the electrical infrastructure, but will also significantly improve the supply capacity and the stability of the service in the region, an investment that is possible thanks to the vision and commitment of President Luis Abinader and the president of CUED, Celso Marranzini.

The province of La Altagracia has experienced an increase in energy demand, from 50 MVA in 2020 to 96.7 MVA in 2024, which represents an annual growth of 18.6%.

With the commissioning of this new transformer, the system’s loadability is expected to be reduced from 110% to 73%, allowing for sustainable growth in the coming years.

This project is part of a series of actions executed by Edeeste in the province, with a total investment of more than RD 1800 million. These initiatives include the construction of three-phase networks, installation of lighting fixtures, and the continuous improvement of medium and low voltage networks. By 2024, there are new projects that will continue to strengthen the power grid and improve the quality of service for local residents and businesses.

In closing, Mejía Naut indicated that, with each grid improvement, the dreams and aspirations of thousands of homes and businesses are fueled; every investment in infrastructure is an investment in a resilient and sustainable future.
