Vice-President receives King Felipe VI during stopover in DR

Vice President Raquel Peña welcomed the King of Spain, Felipe VI, who arrived in the Dominican Republic at 11:00 am last Friday morning.

During the stopover, the Vice President and the King of Spain talked about the importance of continuing to strengthen the ties of fraternity that unite both nations, as well as to continue working in favor of development and mutual welfare.

Likewise, King Felipe VI confirmed his participation in the inauguration of President Luis Abinader’s second term in office on August 16.

Rey Felipe VI“This show of support and willingness reinforces our joint commitment to promote solid and beneficial relations between our nations,” said Raquel Peña.

The visit of the monarch is part of his international route to El Salvador, to participate in the swearing in of Nayib Bukele as president of the referred nation for the five-year term 2024-2029.

King Felipe VI was scheduled to pause at the International Airport of Las Americas Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez, before resuming his flight.

This is not the first time that international authorities pause in the Dominican Republic, as was the case of the visit of Colombian President Gustavo Petro in June 2023.

On the other hand, a Dominican delegation will also participate in the inauguration of the Salvadoran president, which will be headed by the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos Echavarría.
