Dominican Ambassador to the U.S. welcomes DR training ship to New York
Dominican Ambassador to the United States, Sonia Guzman, accompanied the official delegation that welcomed the Dominican Republic Navy, which arrived in New York on the tall ship ‘Alm. Didiez Burgos’, PA-301, ARD, and the training ship ‘Alm. Juan Bautista Cambiaso’.
Guzman said that this is the first time that an international training cruise for DR midshipmen “Verano 2022” visits that city, which had a crew on board of 106 members of the institution.
The ambassador said that “ties of honor unite the Dominican Republic with the United States through the Dominican Navy that today visit this great nation, while on behalf of Dominican President Luis Abinader, Commander in Chief, I give them the most respectful and affectionate welcome to the land of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington”.
The official delegation was composed, in addition to the diplomat, by the Minister of Defense of the Dominican Republic, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, as well as the Dominican Consul in New York, Eligio Jáquez, and Vice Admiral Betances Hernández, Director General of the Dominican Navy, among other authorities.
As part of the education, training and training of the midshipmen and midshipwomen of the Naval Academy ‘Vice Admiral César Augusto de Windt Lavandier’, ARD, the Navy organizes this international event, which will take place from June 14 to July 18, 2022, staying overnight in the ‘Big Apple’ from July 2 to 6 of the current year.
On this cruise, the midshipmen will put into practice the knowledge acquired in the classrooms of the Naval Academy during the first semester of this year.
The institution invited the New York community, and especially the Dominican diaspora, to visit the ship free of charge.
