Wingo will increase by 75% its capacity to the DR to meet the demand of Colombian travelers to the destination, an increase in flights covering the two operational routes to Punta Cana, with six extra frequencies that will represent up to 9,000 added seats.
The airline indicated that the increase will have an emphasis on the last quarter of 2024, with a special focus on the high season weeks of both December 2024 and January 2025.
Wingo will begin additional flights between Bogota-Punta Cana on September 1, 2024, when it will add one frequency per week, culminating the increases in November 2024, when it will implement a daily flight between the two destinations. The two additional flights represent 3,000 seats per month, which are already on sale at Wingo.com.
The Medellin – Punta Cana – Medellin route will be added two frequencies per week starting November 1, 2024, to perfect these increases on December 16, 2024, when a daily flight will be offered focused on high season weeks. The four additional flights represent 6,000 added seats, also already available.
“The DR is one of the key countries in our process of consolidating our position as the preferred Caribbean airline for Colombians. With these additional flights to Punta Cana, we reach up to 22 frequencies per week, which represents nearly 33,000 seats per month on both routes; a number that reflects our commitment to be the best direct flight option in the Colombia-DR market,” said Jorge Jiménez, Wingo’s vice president of commercial and planning.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism of the DR (Mitur) indicated that “the DR continues to open its arms to Colombia as a sister country. We are very happy to receive more and more Colombian tourists and to be part of their vacation experiences. The growing connection between our countries, not only in tourism, but also in the cultural and economic sectors, strengthens our ties and allows us to offer enriching and memorable experiences”.
