WIPO Director General to complete official agenda in DR

The director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Daren Tang, will visit the Dominican Republic and will exhaust an agenda of visits, including visits to President Luis Abinader, meetings and activities organized by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MCIM).

Tang will participate in meetings with President Luis Abinader, the Minister of the MICM, Víctor Bisonó, as well as meet with the directors of the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI) and the National Copyright Office (ONDA), Salvador Ramos and José Rubén Gonell.

The WIPO leader will visit users of the system and plans to sign agreements with the MICM and the Institute of Higher Education Specialized in Diplomatic and Consular Training (INESDYC), to promote innovation, creativity and socio-economic development.

Tang’s visit takes place within the framework of the VII Central American and Dominican Republic Ministerial Meeting on Intellectual Property, in which delegations from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama will participate.

The Dominican Republic is the host country of the VII Central American and Dominican Republic Ministerial Meeting on Intellectual Property, where the conference “Empowering Solutions: Intellectual Property as a tool for innovation, transformation and sub-regional economic recovery”, whose thematic axis is the sub-regional economic reactivation post Covid-19.

The event is organized by the MICM, together with ONAPI and ONDA, with the support of WIPO and the important support and collaboration of the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the WTO, headed by Dominican Ambassador Virgilio Alcántara.
