Luis Abinader considered that the Dominican Republic is on its way to becoming a logistic nation.
The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, assured today that the country is on its way to becoming a “logistics nation,” thanks to the operational and security improvements promoted by the Directorate General of Customs (DGA) through the implementation of technologies.
He said that these improvements will position the logistics sector as a future economic axis of the country. The president spoke on the subject during the event “Hub RD: the great opportunity of a country that is being transformed”. The president stressed that the development of the logistics sector has a direct impact on the quality of life of the population.
“We have a dynamic and growing economy, as well as a clear vision for the future: to turn logistics into a new economic axis,” said the president.
He assured that, through the strengthening of logistics and manufacturing activities, they have achieved a significant increase in cargo and transport flows, both maritime, air and cross-border.
“In 2019, according to data from the General Directorate of Customs, our trade exchange reached US$30,703 million. In 2023, this trade exchange amounted to 40,980 million dollars, representing an increase of 33%,” he noted.
He explained that this result entails a direct impact on the nation’s economic growth that manifests itself as a “virtuous circle.”
“Our reputation as a resilient country is advancing internationally, and the data proves it. Standard & Poor’s rating agency gave the Dominican Republic a BB- rating in 2019, and in 2022 we upgraded to BB and reaffirmed it in 2023, highlighting our solidity and demonstrating that we are capable of moving towards a future of high economic development,” he added.
